Following local public consultation, the letter below confirms our final plans for the branch.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to let us have their comments and provide information during public consultation. 

Regrettably, the temporary postmaster at the current location has now decided to resign. The premises will no longer be avialble for post office use and the branch will close on Wednesday 6 March 2019. We apologise for the inconvenience this temporary closure may cause. Public consultation is ongoing until 5 March 2019 and our decision will be published here shortly.

Overview

We are proposing to move the above Post Office branch to a new location - HJ Foodstore, 70 Villette Road, Hendon, Sunderland, SR2 8RP, where it will operate as one of our new local style branches.  

Why are we moving?

As you may be aware, this branch has been operated on our behalf by a temporary Postmaster. We have therefore had to identify an alternative location to continue to offer Post Office services to the local community. A new agent has been identified to operate the above Post Office.

Our priority is to safeguard Post Office services to the local community in the longer. The relocation of Villette Road Post Office will enable us to maintain a Post Office service to our customers in the local community.

To restore Post Office services as quickly as possible to the local community, the current Post Office will close on Wednesday 20 March 2019 at 17:30 and your new-look Post Office will open at the new premises on Thursday 21 March 2019 at 13:00.

Your new Post Office branch

Customers would access Post Office services at a low-screened, open-plan, modern serving point that’s part of the retail counter. Working with the postmaster, we’d adapt the current store layout, fixtures and fittings to accommodate the Post Office till if needed. The branch will offer a wide range of Post Office products and services over longer opening hours, so customers can access their Post Office when it’s convenient. Customer satisfaction with local style branches stands at 96 per cent, and nearly 20 per cent of local branch customers visit outside traditional opening hours.
